LGV and PCV Courses
Most drivers wanting to undertake LGV (Large Goods Vehicle) and PVC (Passenger Carrying Vehicle) training do as it forms a part of their work or will enable them to get a job involving the driving of such vehicles. There are a large number of LGV and PCV courses throughout the UK and all offer an extremely high standard of driver training for the added responsibility that driving these vehicles carry. There are a number of categories that you can apply to obtain a licence for:
B+E Car + trailer over 750kg.
LGV C1 Rigid truck 3500-7499kg
LGV C Rigid truck 7500-32000kg.
LGV C+E Articulated or drawbar up to 44000kg.
PCV D1 Minibus 8-17 seats.
PCV D Full size bus or coach over 17 seats.
To drive any of these vehicles on your own you will need to complete a theory and practical test. However you will firstly need to apply to the DVLA for a provisional entitlement to drive the vehicle(s) in your chosen category(s) by completing forms D2 and D4 (available from the Post Office or DVLA). Once you have obtained this entitlement you will then need to look for a training centre that offers the right LGV and PCV courses to receive the necessary instruction in order to pass the tests.
